Special Adults Life Skills Academy (SALSA) Cooking and Fitness Classes

The SALSA (Special Adults Life Skills Academy) Program provides evidence-based, independent living skills training for adults with developmental disabilities ages 18+ who have completed high school. This program will build on each participant’s individualized strengths to develop communication, social, culinary & fitness skills while working towards independent skill performance.

The classes are designed to help our clients increase:

  • knowledge and skills related to nutrition and cooking
  • independence in meal preparation
  • willingness to try new foods

The SALSA program is an 8-week session, with classes held twice a week for two hours.  Participants in the program will be divided into two groups, to suit their individualized support needs.  Each group participates in a 45-minute cooking activity, 45-minute fitness lesson, with 30 minutes left to enjoy a meal together as a whole group and complete a reflection activity related to each lesson’s learning objectives.
