Howard Thomas

Howard began his career working with at-risk children and teens as a lead counselor in Belfast, ME.  He developed a passion for individuals with disabilities and was inspired to enter into the field of special education. He worked for the School District of Palm Beach County as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional for three years and then transitioned into non-profit.  In 2013, he began working with adults with disabilities as an adult vocational teacher, developing curricula targeting skills within independent living, social skills and pre-employment.  After 5 years, he was offered the role of Employment Specialist where he led services for programs funded by Vocational Rehabilitation and Med-waiver, providing job coaching and case management services.

Howard joins Els for Autism as our Employment Coordinator.  Howard will assist in the development, planning, implementation and assessment of employment programs for transition-age youth and adults with developmental disabilities. In addition, Howard will assess the supports in place or needed to enable participants to increase independent living, communication and pre-vocational skills in preparation for paid employment, and work with families to develop systems of referral, family support and direct support services. Lastly, Howard will oversee employment skills training, assessment and placement into community employment.
