Sensitivity Training for Employers and Supporting Emotional Regulation in the Workplace 

Description of continuing education program: 

This continuing education program includes a sensitivity training for employers hiring employees with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.  The sensitivity training will provide an overview of the diagnosis of ASD, strengths and challenges of individuals with autism, supports and services available to adults with autism in the workplace, and the benefits of employing individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities.  The second training included in this program focuses on teaching employers how to support emotional regulation in employees with ASD once on the job.  Evidenced-based practices specific to emotional regulation are included.  Visual examples and case studies are imbedded into the training to ensure employers can connect their learning to real-life situations.

 

Learning Objectives:

Sensitivity Training for Employers

  1. Employers will learn about the vision and mission of Els for Autism Foundation®
  2. Employers will learn about the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  3. Employers will learn about the strengths and challenges of individuals with ASD
  4. Employers will learn about the supports and services Els for Autism® provides to adults with ASD in the workplace
  5. Employers will learn about the benefits of employing individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities

Supporting Emotional Regulation in the Workplace

  1. Employers will learn about emotional regulation and its impact on independence and success in the workplace
  2. Employers will identify internal and external causes of dysregulation and provide supports to increase self and mutual regulation
  3. Employers will understand causes and functions of unconventional behaviors and identify supports to increase self-regulation and functional communicational skills
  4. Employers will learn how to implement supports and strategies to increase predictability, communication, and emotional regulation in employment settings
